Testimonial
“When looking for areas to develop we choose areas we ourselves live in and love. When building properties, we plan and design them as we ourselves would want to live. We partner with the best-in-class specialists such as pH+ Architects to create superb properties such as Bayford Mews.”
Zuzie Poskett, NestEast, August 2017

Bayford Mews is a thoughtfully designed development for NestEast in the Mare Street Conservation Area, comprising three mews style residential dwellings and a commercial unit, arranged around a shared mews and distributed over a part three-part four storey building plus basement. Each residential unit benefits from its own entrance at ground level and private amenity space at roof level, accessed via sliding box roof-lights. The primary external material is a warm, textured brick that wraps around the building in alternating courses to delineate each floor level. Panels of herringbone coursing provide intrigue to the main street elevation, adding to the unique character of this subtle and sympathetic response to the surrounding context.
The serrated eastern elevation with a combination of fixed obscured glazing and clear openable windows creates the opportunity to retain privacy from overlooking with respect to the dwellings opposite, whilst satisfying daylighting and ventilation requirements providing direct views towards the street. The result is a unique, rhythmic façade that creates an identity for the development and direct reference to the industrial language of the PEA in which it sits.
