A remodelling of a central London warehouse conversion required an injection of imagination to transform it from purely functional into simply fantastic. The materials of the staircase and other elements overlap blurring the distinction between spaces and uses
The Designer Magazine, June 2009
This extensive re-modelling of an existing two-bedroom apartment on the third and fourth floor of a Victorian Warehouse Conversion in Clerkenwell is designed with a single piece of ‘furniture’, which incorporates the kitchen, staircase, bookshelves and chest of drawers to link the floors and re-orientate the main living spaces.
The clients wanted a high-quality city retreat which went beyond the usual responses of the open plan minimal white box. The brief required a series of spaces that flow into each other, though with each area retaining a distinctive character. Where possible original features of the warehouse have been retained with exposed beams, brickwork and sarking boards remaining visible throughout.
